09/04/2014: Movement

September 5, 2014 By powerandgraceperformance@gmail.com

Last weekend I had the privilege of competing at the Mid America Championships hosted by JUNK brands. I can’t say enough about the hospitality that was provided to myself and all of the other athletes. This was an incredible event and I look forward to going back next year. I chose to compete only in the team competition but was able to coach Emily, Kara and Jeff through the individual competition. Emily and Jeff both snagged podium spots finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. There were many top caliber Games and Regional athletes present and I was amazed at how prepped this athletes are, even during the “off season”. The competition had a very laid back, intimate atmosphere to it and I actually got the opportunity to work with athletes outside of our own Power and Grace athletes on their muscle up, pull up and handstand push-up efficiency. As I worked with these very top level athletes it assured me there is still a lot of information lacking on how to move in a way that is efficient and less taxing on the body instead of just doing whatever necessary to complete skills. I want to encourage people to keep seeking knowledge and fight for perfection. The team competition was an absolute blast. Myself, Emily Carothers, Seth Connelly and Holly Mata made up or team that finished 3rd overall. We laughed a lot and enjoyed the camaraderie and shared workload that is a part of team competitions. On a personal note I PR’d my Diane time in the last event by roughly 30 seconds so it was a great way to conclude the competition. For anyone looking for a great competition during the month of August, I would encourage you to check out this competition.
