With how hard crossfitters train, I am always interested to see what people do on their rest days. What I mean by that is,
-Do you do absolutely nothing at all?
-Do you do some sort of active recovery? If so what is it? Is it a run, row, air dyne recovery or do you partake in something completely different? For those who swim, kudos to you! I believe that is one of the best active recovery workouts there is.
With most of us looking at this time of the year as an “off-season”, I think it very important that you get out and do something different a least once a week. I say this for two reasons. First, I believe that we need incorporate some type of physical activity that works across all planes of motion at some point in the week. Yes, we do this day in a out in general but a lot of us don’t do it with any intensity. To explain this more, I will use the transverse plane of motion. Some examples of this are:
-golf swing
-swinging a bat
-throwing
All motion occurs around one of these three planes of motion. Generally they occur as follows:
Sagittal plane: flexion/extension
Frontal plane: abduction/adduction
Transverse plance: internal rotation/ external rotation
The second reason is that I believe it helps keeps you balanced. It is easy to burn your self out doing the same movements…all…the…time. The longer you are in this sport, the more you will come to understand this. My challenge to you is to get out and move differently once a week!
If you do, I want to hear what it is! All ideas are welcome. Please post below
