I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July weekend! I really hope most of you stayed out of the gym this weekend and enjoyed time with friends and family, arriving back today feeling refreshed and ready to fight once again.
I read an article over the weekend that highlighted a team that made it to the Games this year. One of the issues they struggled with in the past years is always skipping the same movements in their programming. They decided that if they were constantly skipping the same movements, these were probably the ones they needed to work on most, and found themselves spending more time on those in preparation for this year. It made me reflect how often I do this myself. Time constraints always arise, and I tend to navigate towards the movements or workouts that I enjoy, not necessarily the ones I need to put the most time into. How often is this happening in your training? Is it often your gymnastics work? Perhaps you love pulling heavy barbells, or that sick burn in your lungs after an extra spicy metcon, but if you were to put your gymnastics movements on display, would it be a gaping hole in your training? In order to be competitive in the sport of crossfit, there are no longer things we can leave out. As I’ve said before, the concentration definitely needs to be on your skill work, not only doing them, but perfecting them.
