I know it has been a couple days late but I wanted to give some credit to our Junior National Championship competitors. Last weekend in Philadelphia, we had a couple Power and Grace athletes compete at the Junior National Championships.
In the 53 kg class, Jourdan Delacruz had a record-setting day. She tied her American record snatch at 77 kg on a third attempt, broke the total American record on her second attempt clean and jerk with a 170 kg total, and nearly missed an American record clean and jerk at 96 kg that was called for a press out in her left arm. Jourdan had a fantastic day taking first place in all three categories and securing her spot for the Junior Pan-American team this summer.
Juliana Riotto in her first Junior nationals also had a big day. Competing in the super competitive 75 kg class, Jules snatched 79 kg and clean and jerked 96kg. Her total of 175 kg was good enough for fifth place. To give you some understanding of how impressive this is, in my first Junior Nationals I placed seventh in a pretty noncompetitive weight class only totaling 9 more kilograms then Julliana did in her first Junior Nationals.
Congratulations to all the competitors but especially to Jourdan and Juliana on an outstanding performance.
