Day two in the books. Jeff stepped up to the plate big time today and made some moves to get into the final heat for day three. His performance on event four was exceptional and perfectly timed. He did have one random no rep on handstand push-ups but outside of that his performance was perfectly executed. He stuck to the course on the handston push-ups despite the pace of the competitors around him and eventually made his move in the final two sets. He also hit a PR time on the legless rope climb event finishing very high in a field that was incredibly diverse. Event five showed such a wild diversity of scores that literally the number one time athlete ranked 20th and the number two time came from the athlete ranked 40th. Jeff’s finish on this event granted entry into the final heat for day 3.
The point spread in this region is ridiculous. The current leader in the region, Roy Gamboa, has a ridiculous 45 points. He has a 9th finish as well as a 17th and 10th place finish. In no other region have I seen such a ridiculously close point spread. Jeff sits in ninth place with 74 points. Traditionally 74 points would put him about middle of the pack with no chance at a top-five finish. However, because of the diversity of scoring in this region he is only 17 points out of third-place and looking at a potential big move for day three.
Day three should be a dramatic finish for all parties involved. For those of you wondering about Jason, emotionally he is a little beat up his decision to pull out of the competition was a wise one. A separated AC joint as well as a broken first rib has severe repercussions if it were to be made worse. He’s already thinking about next yearโฆ Of course.
