It doesn’t take much time after a big competition to begin processing and reworking all the elements of the weekend in my mind. Typically from the time I land in the city where we are competing I am moving 50,000 miles an hour until Sunday. Sunday, almost always on my flight home, I can’t help but begin thinking through all the elements of the weekend. Power & Grace Performance as a team did overwhelmingly well. As a team we were 60% made lifts with only three missed openers (one of which was mine, dumb mistake) and none of our lifters bombed out of competition. Furthermore, as a team, we walked away with three gold medals, two silver medals, and three bronze metals across all disciplines. However our 53 kg lifter, Jourdan Delacruz, set three new American records as a junior and also walked away as Best Female lifter for the entire American Open Final.
Ironically though, as I sat on the airplane home, it wasn’t the statistics that stood out in my mind. What stood out was the culmination of many weeks of work resulting in many PR attempts, lifts, and totals. These girls work there tails off for a sport that is often times unforgiving and even in their success may often go unnoticed. The culmination of the 2017 year ended well for our team leaving us all anxious for what 2018 holds. With the rumor of new weight classes, a plethora of national competitions at our fingertips, and a ton of momentum behind us we are excited for what the future holds. Take a look at the final results below and if you run into one of these girls be sure to pat them on the back and remind them of how good a job they did.
