Description
Power and Grace is proud to present
Mind-Body Skills: A Balanced Approach in Weightlifting
A live, three-part educational series designed to provide athletes and coaches with mental tools to enhance performance and overall well-being. These techniques will be introduced as life skills that support the regulation of mood, stress, and preparation for both practice and competition. A central focus of the workshop is the 24-hour activity cycle of human behavior, emphasizing the use of guided imagery and other mind-body strategies to prepare for training, competition, and recovery. Additional life skills explored include mindfulness, self-talk, breathing, and relaxation—techniques commonly used by elite athletes and other high performers.
This series is led by Dr. Peter Giacobbi, a teacher and scholar at West Virginia University (WVU). His research focuses on the use of guided imagery as a mind-body technique to assist with health behavior change and human performance. Guided imagery is the controlled visualization of goals and aspirations and is important in the regulation of human behavior, learning new skills and performance enhancement. His research publications reflect ongoing efforts to creatively deliver this behavior change technique using in-person, telephone, social media and mobile health (mHealth) applications.
Each session combines theory with actionable techniques:
-
Session 1: Introduction to Mind Body Techniques
-
Session 2: Mindfulness
-
Session 3: Tying it all together
Schedule: Wednesdays at 7:00 PM EST, starting June 18
Format: Three 45-minute sessions
Location: Online (recordings, transcripts, and resources available in Google Classroom)
