I spent the weekend at CrossFit Mobile working with their gym on the snatch and clean and jerk. Cortney Batchelor graciously co-coached the weekend with me. I was told ahead of time that this gym was more than just familiar with the Olympic lifts. In fact, they practiced and programmed them regularly.
There reputation was exactly correct. We spent very little time with a PVC pipe and, despite how their hands felt, we were able to lift for almost 10 hours over the course of two days. I was extremely impressed by their full understanding of the lifts prior to even teaching them. They knew how to squat. They knew how to overhead squat. They were comfortable under the bar. This made teaching them the finer points not only more interesting but much easier. What’s more, they weren’t interested in the basics. They were interested in the mechanics of the first pull or the placement of the elbows doing the third pull.
Crossfit Mobile is one the top weightlifting gyms that I’ve ever stepped into. Props to Will Richardson and his staff for teaching the lifts well and preparing them well for the seminar. I could not be more thankful for the time spent in Mobile or the hospitality. Thank y’all for entertaining Cortney and I and I hope you walked away with the kind of information that will lead to a new year full of PR lifts.
