Anyone who follows this blog OR has ever seen me stand next to my competitors at a National meet knows cutting weight and weight classes are always something I am interested in. When I first cut from the 77kg class to 69kg at the 2012 American Open, I did so to chase a medal. It worked. I won that year. I had worked so many years to try and be competitive that cutting the weight was worth every second, every calorie, and every drop of sweat. Yet I’m 5’11”.
Colin and I talked a lot about cutting weight while in Thailand riding elephants and eating street Thai food about the dilemma. I didn’t know I’d make his blog.
Below is a great article on weight classes. I agree with him 100% and believe that the decision to cut weight should only come when bounced off a coach who knows what they’re talking about and when chasing a lifetime goal. Check out his words here.
