I saw this blog post today and it was so relevant for yall today that I had to re-post it.
Greg Everett put this out yesterday and I think in today’s world of variety and accessibility, these are strong words.
There is a massive difference in those who train to compete and call themselves athletes and those who train as their lives allow them to, compete as they are able, and yet still call themselves athletes. No offense but if you are not re-arranging plans, vacations, life-events, and daily schedule around your workouts then you have no business lumping yourself into the same category as Rich Froning, Lebron James, and Peyton Manning. Neither groups are bad just an FYI. Those of you who are not striving to be elite level athletes are not bad people or even inferior people, you just are not athletes.
For years, participation in competition has been the litmus test for whether or not you are an athlete. Unfortunately, participation is not the key ingredient, success and the preparation for success is.
Check this article out from Greg Everett and take a hard look at which person you are. Then carry-on as you have been with a proper view of reality and potentially a new vocabulary term for yourself.
