Over the past couple weeks I have been either sent or stumbled upon a couple blogs from Donny Shankle. If you have no idea who Donny Shankle is then either (a) you live under a rock or (b) you live under a rock. Seriously, if you have no idea who he is then type his name into YouTube. You’ll figure it out.
Regardless, he recently posted two blogs worth the second to read. Firstly he posted a blog about utilizing your time wisely in training. His idea of working for the purpose of quality reps not filling time or getting it all done is pivotal for excellence in the sport of weightlifting. I love this line, “Instead of going into the gym and moving through the motions by the hour, go into the gym and work with a motive that will pay you the greatest return. Line up what you have to do and then secure yourself as a champion. After that, move on to the next contract.”
Secondly, he wrote an article about fear of the barbell. What it takes mentally to approach a lift without fear of failure and how that creates success. His analogy of how a pitbull approaches a fight as compared to a human is an awesome one remember. He says, “At the center of all the attributes, blocks, and factors required to win and become a champion is your mind. The beast wins in the fight because all it knows is bite. Bite and do not let go. Bite until it stops moving.” I could not have said it better myself. Check those articles out.
