With all the Regionals complete, I've asked our athletes to write a "year in review" post-Regionals. I asked them to be transparent and honest about how they felt the season and Regionals went and what their expectations are in the off-season. Over the next couple weeks I'm going to be posting these reviews. I think they are pretty informative and provide a good look into the team that makes up Power and Grace.
Here are the thoughts from the one and only Duke Burk:
When looking back at this season, there are many things I could say to describe it. Some things went well, others did not quite go how I had planned or hoped. I had one big goal– make it to the 2015 CrossFit Games. I think it is generally the same goal the majority of our team had. With the new “super-Regionals”, I knew the task at hand was going to be harder than ever before.
Depending on the way you look at it, the 2015 season could be seen as a failure or a success, or maybe just a mixture. I failed to reach my ultimate goal. Even though I failed, I achieved many things that I see as successes, and had experiences that made it the best season yet. The open is the open, I do not enjoy online competitions nearly as much as the in-person, head-to-head competitions. The regional, or super-regional, is where the fun happens– the chance to compete against some of the fittest people in the world. Spencer and Joe prepared me in such a way that I truly believed I would be in contention for one of the five spots. The actual Regional weekend was a blast. I have a great support system, from family and friends to the Power and Grace team. My mood and mindset was positive the entire weekend. I had my goals for each workout, and tried to keep within myself best as possible. On 5 of the 7 workouts, I far exceeded my goals…but it was the other 2 that will drive me this off-season. We knew going in event 7 was going to be the toughest test for me, and it proved to be that way.
All in all, had a blast this season. The gains I made working with Spencer and Joe were great, and I only joined up with them in mid-January. What can an entire year bring? I have no idea but I am excited to find out!
