Continuing the trend here's Richard Andrews from South Central:
I have been doing CrossFit since 2010 and this is the first year I qualified for regionals. My ultimate goal, as always, was to qualify for regionals, but realistically I hoped to place inside the top 40. Actually qualifying for regionals far surpassed my expectations!
The regional weekend was very tough for me. On day 1, I didn't think that anything went according to plan. I was told not to let the crowd throw me off my game plan and I totally let it happen. Day 2 was my best day although I did about 40 reps less on event 3. I PR’d both the handstand walk on event 4 and the snatch in event 5. On day 3, I finished in the middle of the road on both events and finished up in 30th place.
Being a rookie to the regionals, I had no idea what to expect since I had never attended in person as a spectator before. I was the victim of crowd pressure in almost every event
I did, however, have the time of my life competing there.
Spencer and Joe prepared me and got me as ready as possible for that weekend. I learned a lot from the weekend and I have some pretty specific offseason goals because of it. I was surprised how far behind I was in my gymnastic skills. I definitely need to improve my overall strength, and most importantly, put on some weight.
