I’m here. The SEC Championship of Crossfit Regionals. As we kick off what will likely be the most nerve-racking and stressful weekend of the Regionals, I am honestly more excited than nervous. Both JoEllyn and Sasser are stacked in the second heat which means they will spend the day working to be in the final heat on day 2. Up in the North West, Mike is coaching Emily who is starting in the last heat of women.
Mike and I learned a ton about the Regionals last week and a ton more about these specific events that will help these three athletes specifically. Due to the high skilled nature of these events there is always going to be a rabbit that excels above the rest of the field (or maybe even 2 or 3 rabbits). This is especially true of day 1 because event 1 and 2 require all skill and little to no conditioning. Knowing this reality, I am almost glad Jo and Sasser are in the second heat as they will be able to put their blinders on and go to work. Our goal for all three of the Power and Grace athletes is to complete the first day focused solely on themselves. To make 3 snatches. HS walk just a tad farther than they have in practice and not get caught up trying to chase someone down in Nasty Girls (especially if they have no business chasing them down).
Day 1 is easily my favorite day because I am a guy who appreciates highly-skilled athletes and I love the pressure day 1 puts on the athlete to perform. Only 3 attempts in the snatch and only 1 real attempt at the HS Walk. Mess up either of those along the way and your weekend is over. That’s the kind of pressure real athletes thrive under.
If you are at either of these Regionals be sure to wish our folks good luck. To God be the glory!
