I was asked this week by one of my buddies why it is so critical to stay over the bar for SOOOOOO long. Her question stemmed from the fact that she is a relatively tall lifter with long legs making the pull to her hip the hardest part of her lift, especially if she stays over the bar. I responded to her with a couple quick tall lifter jokes that were probably far more funny to me than her and send her the pictures below. In these pictures you see two world class female lifters over the STILL when the bar is at mid-quad. The third picture is of Urik Vardanian in the same position. Vardanian is renowned to have been one of the most efficient snatchers in the game especially considering the SEVER biomechanical disadvantage he was at. (look how long his femurs are and how short his torso is) YET all of them find it necessary to be over the bar with their shoulders for as long as possible in order to be most efficient in their lifting. Why? For the answer take a look at the video below.
